The dot SE country-code top-level domain extension was launched in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were secured. Persons could obtain only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a necessity, i.e. merely Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations were able to buy a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened considerably and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been increasing each year.
